England’s poor combat versus Australia in the Ashes Test series 2021-22 has put a question mark on Joe Root’s red-ball captaincy. The skipper and mates failed to portray a promising showcase as Australia’s newly elected captain, Pat Cummins overpowered the visitors alongside his co.
Losing Tim Paine was supposed to be a huge blow for the home siders but Cummins proved to be a better skipper. Cummins might not have had a great start but feeble opposition paved the way for him. People are still wondering what went wrong for Root and men.
Alarms ringing for Joe Root Test captaincy, yet he is confident to retain his spot:
Although the questions have been raised on his captaincy, Root still is confident of his leadership abilities and optimistic about leading England in Test cricket.
Root alone is not the one to be under pressure after a humiliating 4-0 defeat in Ashes, but the entire English side is yet to get over the on-field nightmares. The guests lose the Brisbane Test by 9 wickets, Adelaide Test by 275 runs, Melbourne Test by an inning and 14 runs, and the Hobart Test by 146 runs. It is to be noted that the Sydney Test was drawn among the two.
The terrific batter added,
“I feel like I’m the right man for the job. I’ve got the appetite, I feel passionate about it, I think I’ve got the support of the guys around me. I’m very experienced in the role now.
“Hopefully, that’s what happens moving forward but it’s another step forward that needs to happen.”
"I'd love the opportunity to try and turn things round"
