IPL: This cricketer will return to RCB next year

AB De Villiers confirms his return to IPL for RCB

AB De Villiers has announced his return to the Indian Premier League next year in IPL 2023. Confirming the news, the former South African cricketer said he is not sure about his post. De Villiers has selflessly served the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), rendering vital services to the red army. He has been one of the closest mates of Virat Kohli since 2011, and is set to re-made the bond next year.

Former RCB skipper Virat confirmed the news earlier. He hinted the Proteas might return as the coach of the team. While talking to the media, De Villiers revealed that he has been missing his hometown India, and will get back next year for sure.

“To be honest, we haven’t decided on anything yet. I will definitely be around IPL next year. I am not sure in what capacity but I am missing getting back there,”

“I have heard a little bird tweeting, saying that there might be some games in Bangalore. So I would love to return to my second hometown and watch the full capacity stadium there at the Chinnaswamy again. I would love to return, I am looking forward to it,”

Notably, De Villiers retired from international cricket in 2018 and went on to play franchise cricket. In 2021, he decided to bid farewell to all forms of cricket, hence, was not part of the IPL 2021 mega auction. It is certain that he will not return to RCB as a player.

Apart from sharing memories with Kohli since 2011 in the RCB regime, he has been associated with the franchise since the league’s inception in 2008. In 170 innings, the former cricketer has 5162 runs at an average of 38.70 and a strike rate of 151.68.
