Shahid Afridi asks PCB not to bench Dahani

Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has put his belief in Shahnawaz Dahani, the young pacer, and says he can do wonders for the team. The right-arm bowler has not enjoyed a great stint in the recent home T20I series versus England. He has conceded 170 runs in just four games at an average of 56.6 and managed barely three scalps.

Afridi says a few bad matches come in every player’s career, and it is not something to bench him. In fact, he has backed the bowler, saying it will boost his confidence. Terming Dahani as the crowd’s attention seeker, the ex-captain appealed to the board to back him.

“Dahani is really a good prospect, and he needs regular chances. Bad days come in players’ careers but benching him won’t work,”

“Dahani is energetic and pulls the crowd. He needs to be backed by the team management. If they give Dahani more chances, he will get stronger,”

Notably, Dahani became the second-most-expensive Pakistani pacer after yielding 60+ runs in the third match of the seven-match Pak vs Eng T20I series. According to the flamboyant Afridi, a few bad performances do not define what Dahani carries within himself.

The Sindh-born gathered massive attention during Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) after match-winning performances. His bond with Carlos Braithwaite and others in the squad was the centre of attraction after grasping wickets.
